Hey folks! We’re thrilled to announce the third confirmed keynote for Python Sul 2025: Cesar Brod!

Cesar brings together technical expertise, passion for open source, and a deep commitment to community. Grab your mate, because stories and inspiration are on the way!

He’s a grandfather, nerd, writer, and CTO at Quaza Tecnologia. Cesar has been working in IT since 1982, with much of his professional background developed in the United States, Canada, and France. He started working with Linux in 1993 and, since 1997, through BrodTec, has provided consulting services, project management, and business models built on open source software.

Throughout his career, he’s worked with mainframes, large-scale and fault-tolerant systems, and only later got his first home computer. He’s witnessed the rise and fall of technologies that once seemed like magic, but has always remained fascinated by elegant systems such as Unix (now Linux), Python, and the software craftsmanship manifesto, cultivating a strong appreciation for simplicity and efficiency.

Who is Cesar Brod?

Cesar has a curious and restless spirit, always eager to learn and share knowledge. Early on, he explored Unix and GNU/Linux systems and dedicated his energy to encouraging tech communities beyond big cities, highlighting the talent and potential of people and teams in smaller regions.

A familiar face at open source events across Brazil and abroad, Cesar led, between 2006 and 2009, the project management for the Innovation Centers for Interoperability and Open Source, supported by Microsoft, at UFRGS and Unicamp. He is also the founder and co-creator of Solis, a Cooperative for Free Software Solutions, and a member of Jon “Maddog” Hall’s international project “Linux around the World”, which promotes awareness and adoption of free software globally.

Books and Literary Contributions

Beyond his technical background, Cesar is an accomplished writer and the author of several books on Scrum and agile methodologies, offering practical guidance for developers, leaders, and managers.
His books are available on his website: https://scrum.brod.com.br/.

Blending hands-on experience with strategic vision, his books help teams of all sizes adopt agile methodologies in an effective and sustainable way.

Fossday: boosting tech in the countryside of RS

Cesar also served as mentor of the Fossday event, which aimed to bring knowledge about open source, GNU/Linux, and Scrum to smaller cities in Rio Grande do Sul, including Lajeado, Bento Gonçalves, and Pelotas. The event was free, allowing many curious and motivated people to connect with the tech community.

One of the most memorable moments was in 2018, in Lajeado, when Cesar managed to bring Jon “Maddog” Hall to the event and hosted an open panel on Free Software, creating a space for dialogue and learning that left a strong impact on the local community.

Professional Journey

Over the years, Cesar has seen the evolution of complex technological systems, always valuing the elegance of solutions like Unix/Linux and Python. He has made significant contributions to spreading free software and agile practices, while also supporting numerous initiatives in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. His career shows how it’s possible to combine curiosity, technical expertise, and community spirit, inspiring professionals and enthusiasts alike to broaden their horizons.
